PITTSBURGH CULTURAL TRUST ANNOUNCES

BUZZWORD PITTSBURGH
2016 & 2017 EVENTS

LEARN NEW WORDS TOGETHER
FOR FAMILIES & CHILDREN AGES 5 & YOUNGER!

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust announces Buzzword Pittsburgh will offer two programs through the remainder of 2016 and eight programs to kick off the 2017 year. December programming will take place on Wednesday, December 20 and Saturday, December 31. The programming lineup includes events at Highmark First Night Pittsburgh, where children can ring in the New Year with teaching artists to create fantastically festive headpieces and contribute to a giant paper flower garden at the Trust Arts Education Center. Buzzword Pittsburgh will launch programming in 2017 with events on Thursdays, January 12, 19, and 26, February 2, 9, and 16; Tuesday, January 24; and Tuesday, February 14.

Aimed at exciting children ages 0-5 and their families, Buzzword Pittsburgh consists of six partner organizations with expertise in the arts and sciences, including the Carnegie Science Center, Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, who acts as the collaborative lead partner. Through events hosted by each partner organization in Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood and the greater community, participants can engage in talk and play around math, science, and art concepts, and families can learn to expand their young children’s vocabulary and conservation skills. This initiative is supported by PNC Grow Up Great ®.

“With Buzzword, we aim to provide a space to support and celebrate the family role in education. We are excited to launch our 2017 programming, encouraging imagination, investigation, creation and reflection,” shares Lisa Viscusi, Buzzword Pittsburgh Program Coordinator. Buzzword Pittsburgh helps to introduce new words and build the vocabulary of children through free community programs, events, and performances. Buzzword Pittsburgh educators and community partners offer tips, strategies and activities for familiar to use in everyday moments. Each program also focuses on a word of the day that is used to encourage vocabulary development and play with the participants.

Pittsburgh Cultural Trust
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has overseen one of Pittsburgh’s most historic transformations: turning a seedy red-light district into a magnet destination for arts lovers, residents, visitors, and business owners. Founded in 1984, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is the cultural and economic revitalization of a 14-block arts and entertainment/residential neighborhood called the Cultural District. The District is one of the country’s largest land masses “curated” by a single nonprofit arts organization. A major catalytic force in the city, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is a unique model of how public-private partnerships can reinvent a city with authenticity, innovation and creativity. Using the arts as an economic catalyst, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has holistically created a world-renowned Cultural District that is revitalizing the city, improving the regional economy and enhancing Pittsburgh’s quality of life. Thanks to the support of foundations, corporations, government agencies and thousands of private citizens, the Trust stands as a national model of urban redevelopment through the arts. www.TrustArts.org
