About: Until we gather again in-person for the next EQT Children’s Theater Festival in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is thrilled to present two new Virtual Field Trips for educators and group leaders to share with students and young arts enthusiasts; Sugar Skull and Jazztime Musical!
Sugar Skull!
A Virtual Día de Muertos Adventure for school groups, Spanish Clubs, Conversational Spanish Groups and homeschoolers Mexico Beyond Mariachi presented by the EQT Children’s Theater Festival in partnership with the Children’s Theater Series
We invite students on a virtual journey with Sugar Skull, a charismatic candy skeleton, as he follows the music towards the ultimate party! He is spurred on by the tricky Chaneques, who desperately want him to be the centerpiece on their ofrenda. Along the path, Sugar Skull meets many colorful characters who teach him how Day of the Dead is much more than a party--it is a celebration of life! Sugar Skull! is a joyful adventure that delves into the rich traditions of Día de Los Muertos to deepen students’ understanding of Mexican and Latin American culture. Featuring regional dances of Mexico, colorful costumes and traditional music, Sugar Skull! teaches about Mexican culture beyond the expected! This 30 minute virtual performance is available in English or Spanish with subtitles and comes with a robust study guide.
Jazztime! Musical
Adapted from Stage to Screen for educators and group leaders
Produced by Pittsburgh Cultural Trust with support from PNC Grow Up Great presented in partnership with the EQT Children’s Theater Festival and Children’s Theater Series
In this 30 minute production, students will experience the styles and elements of jazz music through a special musical created and performed by local Pittsburgh talents! The show will begin with Grandma Rose as she reminisces about the good old days as a popular vocalist with a band of the finest musicians. After a clumsy fall over the boxes in her attic, Rose awakes to music being played by her old band! Now reunited, they sing the old songs that taught her all about jazz music, exploring tempo, dynamics, melody, improvisation and more. This musical performance adapted for the screen presents children with an introduction to jazz that will be sure to inspire.

Erich Bergen: Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Cabaret Series

About: The return of the ever-popular Trust Cabaret series starts with two rescheduled performances of critically-acclaimed Jersey Boys star, Erich Bergen on October 11. Both shows now have limited availability. Following Erich, is Brandon Victor Dixon on November 15, Karen Akers on Valentine’s Day in 2022, Ali Stroker in March 2022, and lastly the legendary Chita in April of 2022. The Trust Cabaret series still makes the perfect outing for a night in the city.

Amos Lee U.S. Tour Comes to Pittsburgh!

Ramp it Up: Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s Gala in the Garage Recap
Thanks to lead sponsor Highmark, countless supporters, and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s faithful members, the Ramp it Up Gala on September 22 was a great success. Guests enjoyed a uniquely and simply designed evening at the Cultural Trust’s home base, Theater Square Garage. Cocktails, delectable food, and entertainers from Studio E shifted the celebration into high gear.
